When Procrastination Pays Off – The Shows Of March 23 and 24

(above the bar at The 5 Spot)

I was all set to spend the next couple hours working on a post for the shows I attended on Sunday and Monday, but apparently both the Scene and my trusty bandmate beat me to it. That’s fine by me – they do a much better job at describing things than I could ever do. A good chunk of the post was gonna be spent on further bitching about ridiculously-late start times, so now (maybe) I can get through a whole post without sounding like an old man.

Sunday’s show at The 5 Spot featured Hands Off Cuba, The Country Music (both featuring Scott Martin and his fucking awesome drum playing), and a band that sucked in multiple facets.

(note: suckiness has been blurred so as to contain the suckiness)

(time to go back to suck town, suck band)

Monday’s offering was a too-kind triple bill at Springwater with Paper Hats, Festival, and Cortney Tidwell (and even more Scott Martin, as he played 1 song with Paper Hats and the full set with Cortney Tidwell). Here’s a clip of Festival performing what-I-believe-to-be “Boxcar”. The clip is dark, unfortunately, but it sounds pretty good:

My hectic week of concert-going and music-loving will finally wrap up with tomorrow’s post about my Tuesday trip to The Belcourt. I’m tired and oh-so ready to start my vacation (spring break! woo!), so I wouldn’t mind too much if someone beat me to that one, too.
