Local Bands Play Cover Songs, Unwittingly Provide Material For Music Blog

Last night, an octet of Nashville bands converged at The Mercy Lounge to perform a bunch of cover songs from the 90’s. I wasn’t there, because (a) I had to work, and (b) the thought of sitting through an evening of bands doing cover songs nauseates me.

But my roommate – the official Opening Acts videographer – was there. And his cover song tolerance is much higher than mine. When he came home, he handed me a digital camera stuffed with footage from the show. Below are two of several performances that he deemed to be highlights.

First up is The Mattoid with a thoroughly entertaining version of Celine-Fucking-Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”. Nauttia!

Up next is a terrific pop band known as Leopardus Pardalis by zoologists, but known to the rest of us as Ocelots. One of their contributions to the evening was the following cover of TLC’s “Waterfalls”. My roommate said this was by-far the best performance of the evening. See for yourself:

My roommate will be posting more of these later this week. It’s YouTube week at The Opening Acts! Huzzah – we’ve finally reached the creative cellar.
