New Spinto Band Songs Elicit Same Shrugs As Old Spinto Band Songs

The Spinto Band are one of those bands who I really, really try to like. Alas, I always end up feeling a bit underwhelmed by their releases. They seem like they are always on the verge of creating something truly great, but fail to deliver on that promise.  It doesn’t help that my first exposure to them was through the wonderful “Oh Mandy”, which is one of my absolute favorite songs of this decade. Maybe that was a bad thing, as I’ve judged everything else they’ve done by the one moment that can easily be considered their peak.

Still, they are the best thing to come out of Delaware since the opening of Bargain Bill’s:

Mesmerizing, no?

The Spinto Band have posted 2 new songs on their Myspace page, apparently a part of an upcoming EP. The first one, “Jackhammer”, is slight but still pretty good. The second, “Brazil”, is a bit of a goof.  All in all, it’s not enough to change my opinion about the band (if anything, it reinforces my feelings about them), but it’s enough for me to keep giving them a chance to blow my mind the way that they did (an increasingly-long time ago) with “Oh Mandy”.

Speaking of which:

Yeah, that’s the stuff.
