Your Weekend Holiday – Slovak National Uprising Day

I smell a reluctantly communist finger.

Today is Slovak National Uprising Day. On this day in 1944, the gentle, malodorous people of Slovakia defended themselves against Hitler’s invading, communist forces. Slovakia put up a good fight with what they had (pitchforks and odor) but fell to the Germans until another communist country, the Soviet Union, seized control in 1945. It then became Czechoslovakia and remained that way until it peacefully split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993.
