Aw, Chit (Part Two)

Chet, the band responsible for the best 70 seconds of music I’ve heard all year, released their new album a couple weeks ago.  Here again is the song that sent me a-swooning for a little over a minute, and then let me down considerably for its remaining 4 minutes:

Chet – The Night The Night

My original assessment of that song still stands.  I can pretty much say the same thing for the entire album.  Every song has one or two parts that I really enjoy mixed in with a whole bunch of parts that I’m just not digging.  This is especially true for the monstrous “An Abiding Love Despite Adversarial Vice” (you can give it a listen over at Song, By Toad) which has about 3 great songs spread out within its 14 minutes.  Combined with the lead singer’s serious case of UFS (unnecessary falsetto syndrome, which has been spreading recently), it makes for a fairly frustrating listen.

But I can’t stop listening to it.  The good parts are so good that it makes me overlook all the less-than-good parts.  And who knows – I might change my mind about those less-than-good parts with several more listens.  I’m kinda hoping that I do, because I really, really want to like this band.

Here’s one of the simpler tracks from the album, which serves as a nice palette cleanser after the song above:

Chet – Cautious Melody

Give some more songs a listen by visiting their Myspace page, then buy the record over at Absolutely Kosher.  If you do, please let me know what you think about it, as I’m curious to hear other folks’ take on this one.
