I had a girlfriend who hated the word ‘brief’. She never really gave a justifiable reason why – something about words with an ‘eef’ sound grated on her (she definitely would not be a fan of this fella). Whenever I would say ‘brief’ (or ‘briefly’), she would wince. It got to the point where she pretty much conditioned me into not using the word.
She also hated alcohol. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking.
