Compare And Contrast: Guns N’ Roses Wrote More Than One Good Song, Ya Know?

Chromewaves posted this song on Sunday:

Taken By Trees – Sweet Child O’ Mine

On Tuesday, they posted it again (because the link for Sunday’s post was broken). It was accompanied by this song:

Luna – Sweet Child O’ Mine (Live)

On Thursday, the following song was posted by the lovely Scottish blog, Song, by Toad:

Alex Cornish – Sweet Child O’ Mine

All of this reminded me of this track . . .

The Aluminum Group – Sweet Child O’ Mine

. . . which reminded me of that god-awful Sheryl Crow version from that even-more-god-awful Big Daddy soundtrack which I will not provide a link to because it is so goddamned god-awful that I’m afraid it’s god-awfulness will rub off on the rest of the blog.

For those too young to remember or too hip to admit it:

Appetite For Destruction is a monster of an album. It features 12 songs, almost all of which are terrific (okay, “Out Ta Get Me” and – maybe – “You’re Crazy” are less-than-stellar).   Any of those songs would make a swell cover for those of you in indie bands who want to score points by going with the look-at-us-we’re-doing-a-metal-song-in-a-totally-different-style route.

So why does everybody have to cover the same damn song?

Here’s the original (and best):

For the record, I’ll go with The Aluminum Group as my favorite because they’re the only ones who bothered with the ‘where do we go’ coda. If you have a different opinion, let me know in the comments.

UPDATE: Here’s another version, the trip-hoppy cover by Akasha that was mentioned in the comments. Thanks to commenter, critixx, for the tip.

Akasha have also a version of this song, and a pretty good one! because it goes into an other direction of style, it’s trip-hop with a very rough voice.

Sounds interesting – I’ll have to check that one out. Thanks for the comment.
