Hot Lovin’: The National’s Alligator As Music For Sexytime

In our previous Hot Lovin’ segment, I mentioned that there were two primary reasons for putting on music prior to getting hot and bothered: in order to set the mood, and in order to drown out the sound so that others can’t hear what’s going on. The previous post was an example of the latter. This is an example of the former.
We’ll keep this one relatively short. The National’s Alligator came out several years ago. If you happen to be a fan of the bands that we regularly blog about, then you probably already own this album. And if you’ve had this one playing while doing dirty things, then you’re already aware of how well this album works for doing such dirtiness. If you own this album, and you haven’t had this playing while intercoursing with a loved one, then get to it right now. Seriously – go NOW!!
We’ll wait.
. . .
Have you started yet?
. . .
Good.
. . .
One thing you’ll notice right from the start is the –WHOAH, WHOAH, STOP!! TURN OFF THE WEBCAM!! PLEASE . . . TURN OFF THE WEBCAM!!!
. . .
Wow, I did not need to see that.
. . .
Anyway, the overall mood of this album is pretty consistent throughout, which means that the whole thing flows nicely while you’re rocking and rolling. There are no long stretches of ambient nothingness, nor are there any harsh moments that could break your concentration.
. . .
And the lyrics are — you already finished?
. . .
Really?
. . .
Well, ok then. I was about to say that Matt Berninger’s unpredictable lyrics are such a joy to listen to that – if you’re in a situation where you’re struggling to keep things from finishing too soon – you can focus your attention on trying to decipher the opaque storytelling, which could at least buy you a little bit more time.
But I guess I should have mentioned that earlier.
. . .
Um, let’s listen to a song from the album. This is the fourth track – I really thought you would have made it this far.
