Richard Hawley Falls Victim To My Inability To Come Up With A Snazzy Headline On A Saturday Afternoon

I still find it weird that I’ve seen Richard Hawley three times before I even knew who he was.  That’s because those three times were:

1) As guitarist for Longpigs, who opened for The Dandy Warhols at a 1999 show in Orlando.

2) As the rhythm guitarist for Pulp, at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in Washington DC a year earlier (in case you’re an idiot, that would be 1998).

3) Two days after that, also with Pulp, at a sold-out NYC show at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

So I’ve never seen Richard Hawley as a solo artist.  And that sucks because, goddamn, he’s fucking brilliant. Here’s proof:

His new album, of which the above song is taken from, will be released in 9-or-10 days, depending on your hemisphere. It is going to be wonderful (no, I haven’t stumbled upon a leak online – call it a hunch).

Here’s a B-side to bide the time:

Richard Hawley – I’m Just Here To Get My Baby Out Of Jail

On a related note, the new album from Amy Millan features a cover of Richard Hawley’s “Run For Me” from Lowedges. It’s not as good as the original. I’ll leave it at that.
