I Guess It’s Friday

Geez, funeral’s are sad. Why didn’t anyone tell me this earlier?
The last time I went to a funeral was when I was 2 years old, after my grandfather was murdered. Having only existed for roughly 24 months prior, I of course don’t remember his funeral at all. However, I’ve been told it was quite the bummer.
In the ensuing 30 years, my immediate family started a fairly-impressive streak of not dying. That streak ended, unfortunately, two weeks ago with my grandmother’s passing. We all knew it was coming, so it didn’t hit my family too hard when it finally happened. Since most of my immediate family shares my knack for emotional detachment, we were all cool as cucumbers upon arriving at the funeral home Tuesday night.
But then my great aunt (my grandmother’s sister) showed up and did what all of us should have been doing – she broke down. Hard. Things got pretty heavy after that.
So it’s been a rough week. Furthermore, around 33 hours of the week were spent driving (Nashville to Tampa to Miami and back), so it’s been a very tiring week as well. As a result, I’m not quite ready to get back into the music blogging (I tried earlier this morning, and the results weren’t great), even though my list of things to write about has increased while I’ve been gone. What this hopefully means is that – after taking another day off – next week should be very busy around here. It’ll start on Sunday with the second part of the Magnetic Fields covers series.
Super kudos goes to Tyge for keeping things going while I was gone. I am clueless as to the theme of the last three Random Songs, so I’m looking forward to the big reveal this weekend. I’m also curious as to which holiday he will feature next. Will he go with the obvious choice on Saturday? Or will he throw us a curveball and pick a holiday devoted to another deli meat? If I wasn’t so damn tired right now, I’d stay up all night in anticipation.
My friend Christy sent me this last night. I will share it with you, then step away from the computer and take a very long nap.
