Monday Tuesday Morning Video Fun For Those Stuck At Work At An Ungodly Hour
Note: I tried to have this ready by Monday morning, but ended up getting ridiculously shit-faced the night before. I regret nothing (beyond those couple text messages that I probably shoudn’t have sent).
The new album from múm did not make much of an impression with the folks at Pitchfork and PopMatters, but that will not stop me from continuing to give them love. With this terrificly terrifying video – which first showed up on Stereogum last week – my love for them only gets stronger.
It’s been over a month now since The Lucksmiths performed their final show. A quick Google blog search shows that not one damn blogger attended the show (shame on you, Melbourners). Thankfully, a posting on their Myspace page mentions that the show was filmed, so all of us will (soon?) have a chance to shed one more tear for Australia’s finest. In the meantime, here is one of only 2 YouTube clips that have popped up from that show.
When I first started watching the following video from Venice Is Sinking, I thought it was going to be a total rip-off of Yo La Tengo’s classic video for “Sugarcube”. Thankfully, though, the band takes the ‘Rock School’ premise in a different-yet-equally-entertaining direction, which is great because I would have really felt bad writing mean things about such a great band. The video’s final scene takes place at the wonderful Caledonia Lounge in Athens, where I had one of the funnest nights of my life many years ago. It was the first time that I got to see Lucas, the drummer, with his shirt off. This video provides the second time. Those last two sentences were kinda weird, eh?
Finally, here is Richard Hawley doing a quick Elvis cover during a show at the beginning of this month. I’ll have more to say about this fine fella later this week.
