cheer up, you don't live in tampa anymore

Home was my favorite local band during my high school days in Tampa. Really, no other band in town came close to being as good as these guys (suck it, Genitorturers). Their one-and-only foray into the world of major labels (1995’s IX, released on Sony’s Relativity Records imprint) is nestled comfortably in my top 10 list of albums I can not be without.  And Elf: Gulf Bore Waltz – one of 2 follow-up albums that came out the next year – is not too far behind.

Here are 2 songs from IX – the quick, poppy “Make It Right”, and the fantastic mindfuck that is “Reprint”.

Home – Make It Right
Home – Reprint

And here is my favorite track from Elf: Gulf Bore Waltz:

Home – Forgiveness

Home have 2 new releases of note.  The first is the Home Box Set. Remember the 1995 release I just mentioned that was called IX? Well this is I through VIII.  These 8 cassette releases have been remastered and are now available in the digital realm through Brah Records.  For a mere $15.99, all 95 (!) songs can be yours.  That’s less than 17 cents per song (0.168, to be exact) – a fucking bargain!

The second release is a new, new, new album – the snazzily titled Seventeen (have you sensed a pattern yet?) – which will be out towards the end of January.   Here’s the terrific song that their label has unleashed on the interwebs as a preview:

Home – Photographed With Ease

More info on Home can be found at their Wikipedia page. In closing, there is no way I can write a post about this band without mentioning that one of my friends named her cat after their current drummer.  He’s a pretty cool dude (both the cat and the drummer).

Yay, Tampa/St. Pete area! LOL– I just found your blog through Google searching for some PAS/CAL (my favorite band!) stuff. Looking around it looks like a cool blog with good music!

Thanks for the kind words, Rose. It’s comforting to know there are other PAS/CAL fans out there (btw, if you haven’t yet, definitely check out Computer Perfection, as it features 4 former PAS/CAL members). If you’re living in Tampa, stop by New World Brewery and have a beer for me (and say hi to Joe).
