Labrador Labratories: The Greatest Band In The History Of Music

Let’s back up.

About a month ago, I wrote some kind words about San Francisco one-man band Labrador Labratories.  In that post, I mentioned that he was inviting fans to submit photographs of themselves; in return, he would write a piece of music inspired by that photograph.

Because the world needs more songs inspired by my face, I ended that post by submitting a photograph of myself – as taken by my good friend Aubrey – for his project, with a promise to include the results in a follow-up post.  In the hopes of getting your creative juices flowing (and to make you a little horny), here’s the picture I submitted:

it should inspire you, too.

it should inspire you, too.

Last week, this showed up in my inbox:

Labrador Labratories – Man Near The Bathroom

Fuck yeah!

In my many years of being prickish and heartless on occasion (it’s never intentional – I just speak before I think on a regular basis), I’ve inspired a couple songs and several poems, mainly by former girlfriends and mainly about how prickish and heartless I can be on occasions.  I’ve got no problem with that – I kinda dig it, actually (at least I made an impression) – but none of those songs or poems have ever been any good.

Maybe it’s because the catalyst is different, but this song is good – this song is very good.  I can listen to this thing all day (even if this wasn’t inspired by me, I’d still think that the guitar line that pops in during the second verse is fantastic).

Did The Beatles ever write a song inspired by me? No, they were too busy writing about undeserving people named Eleanor and Jude. Did the Rolling Stones write a song inspired by me? No, although – since they refuse to go away – it could still happen. Did your pwecious, pwecious wittle Gwizzly Bear write a song about me? Hell no!

But Labrador Labratories did.  And because of that, Labrador Labratories is the greatest band in the history of music.

I will now spend the rest of my day setting up hundreds of bogus accounts on Hype Machine in order to get the song to the top of their chart.

I’m proud to say, I sit right in front of Tom of Labra all day. From time to time, he gives me that evil grin!
Just part of his charm ;)
