Let’s Listen To Some Magnetic Fields Covers – Part Six: Turning The Tables

For the final part in this series, I’ve decided to feature the small handful of covers performed by The Magnetic Fields. “The Man Amplifier” was the B-side to the “Why I Cry” 7-inch; the remaining songs come from various compilation albums, all of which are out-of-print. For the anal retentive out there, I should point out that there are other covers out there by Stephin Merritt and his related side projects (see this comprehensive discography), but these are the only ones credited specifically to The Magnetic Fields. So if you were hoping to hear Future Bible Heroes’ cover of “Don’t You Want Me?” by The Human League, you’re out of luck. Maybe next time.
Speaking of which: although I’m calling this the final part, whether-or-not this continues is up to you. If you know of a band that has covered a Magnetic Fields song, let me know. Of more importance to me, if you’ve recorded a Magnetic Fields cover, send it my way. Once I get a nice combination of the former and the latter (I’ve already gotten 2 this week), I’ll feature them in another post.
Lastly, I must say thanks to all of you who have been following this series. All of your comments, emails, tweets, and whatnot are truly appreciated. I hope this has helped tide you over until the new Magnetic Fields album is released.
Enjoy the songs.

I discover the band 8 months ago, with 69 love songs. Magic I continue on “realism”… Seems really nice one!
Oh I just heard the young marble giant song. I’ll pick that one too.
Thank you.

Truly a labor of love, and I am so grateful for this. Just saw the Mag Fields in concert this week – a terrific performance, and I loved the acoustic approach. THANKS so much for collecting all these cover tunes – WOW. You deserve some kind of award for this.
Thank you very, very much for the kind words, LD. It is much appreciated.
