My Mind Sometimes Wanders
When I mentioned Lou Reed in a recent post on my blog about Leonard Cohen, I was reminded of Reed’s song, “Dirty Blvd.” I haven’t heard it since it was popular and on the airwaves in 1989. I found an Mp3 of the song, and it’s just as cynical as I remember.
Here’s a clip from 1995’s ad-lib film, Blue in the Face. Lou talks about New York City and why he’s scared of Sweden. His dry wit is hilarious. Beware of a pissed-off Harvey Keitel screaming “New York” for a split-second between Reed’s comments.
When Lou mentioned his fear of Sweden, it reminded me of that country’s Alpine skiing resort, Katrina, and that reminded me of another song I literally haven’t heard since it was on the airwaves over twenty years ago, a song by Katrina and the Waves.
Although not as cheesy as “Walking on Sunshine,” this song does have the phrase “shake-it-up” used a few times. The chorus however, is a simple, catchy sing-a-long that twenty years later, I can’t help but still enjoy.
Katrina and the Waves – Red Wine and Whiskey
Remember how instead of simply ending, songs would often fade-out? Yea, this song is one of them.
This concludes my musical reminiscing for now, as I have a date at eight with Mr. Cohen.
