Just One Minute: A Mix

Posted in mixes on October 19th, 2009 by CARL – 3 Comments

After The Zookeepers sent me the 47-second song that I posted last week, it got me thinking about other songs in my music collection that were around one minute long or less. By this I meant actual, fully-formed songs – not interludes or any other type of quick album filler.  A hasty perusal of my music collection yielded the following mix.

So sit back and enjoy what is, most likely, the shortest collection of songs you will ever hear.  As usual, my criteria for themed mixes is the following:  fuck you, I’m gonna do what I want.  The result of this is that a couple songs go a couple seconds over the one minute mark.  Deal with it.

This mix is dedicated to my ex-girlfriend, who always called me The Minuteman.  I assume it’s because of my vast knowledge of the American Revolution.  Yep, that must have been the reason.

Enjoy.

1) Silver Jews – Introduction II
2) Pulsars – Wisconsin
3) Stephin Merritt – Shall We Sing A Duet
4) The Lucksmiths – $30
5) Euros Childs – Cynhaeaf
6) Pavement – I Love Perth
7) Belle And Sebastian – I Don’t Want To Play Football
8) Max Tundra – Pocket
9) Casiotone For The Painfully Alone – Happy Mother’s Day
10) Pas/Cal – Grown Men Go-Go

Know of any other worthy one-minute songs? Let me know in the comments.

Submission (To The Master)

Two things:

1) Since I’ve started to receive several requests for submissions, I figured I’d let everyone know my submission guidelines. Here they are:

Gimme, gimme, gimme!

That’s pretty much it. If you wanna give me music, go ahead and send it my way. All genres are accepted, though common sense would dictate that you should probably pay attention to the bands that I write about to get a sense of my musical leanings (although you’d never know from my postings how much I like experimental music). For physical CD’s, just email me for my mailing address. If you’re gonna do it all electronically (how progressive of you), just make sure that all of your links work.

But will I write a nice little post about you if you send stuff in? Well, that’s gonna depend on whether or not you’re any good, isn’t it? If I like ya, I’ll do my best to spread the word.

Oh, and please note: if you suck, I’m gonna write about how much you suck using the most vicious combination of words that I can conjure up. I thoroughly value my time – if you waste it, I’ll be quite unhappy. For an example of this, pay a visit to this post.

2) Does anyone remember the Pulsars? They released an album back in 1997 on Herb Alpert’s Almo Records (he also played trumpet on several of the tracks). Every song on that album was catchy as hell – really, melodic pop songs layered with plenty of synths. As far as I can tell, their self-titled album is the only one they ever released, which is a shame.

The song below was in my head as I was writing the first draft of this post. You should give it a listen.
